The Royal Yachting Association, based in Hamble, near Southampton, is the national governing body for all forms of recreational, competitive and professional boating.  It represents dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sportsboats, windsurfing, inland cruising and personal watercraft.

SUSTAINABILITY OFFICER

Salary: £28,000 - £30,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Permanent, full-time (35 hours per week)

Location: Hamble, Southampton

The RYA aims to maintain and promote safe, responsible recreational boating, and to become a leader in sustainability within the boating community.  To help us with our ambitions we have created a new position for a Sustainability Officer, to join our Environment & Sustainability team. 

We are seeking a self-motivated, proactive and engaging individual who has experience of delivering sustainability initiatives with demonstrable outcomes.  As a successful candidate you will have broad knowledge of sustainability issues, knowledge of the application of international (ISO) standards and be educated to degree level or equivalent in an environmental / sustainability field. You should also have strong skills in developing strategies and report writing.

The ability to be diplomatic whilst maintaining integrity, effective at advocating and negotiating and building & maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is essential for this role.

As the Sustainability Officer, your key duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the introduction of an Environmental Management System that meets the requirements of the ISO14001:2015 standard;
  • Reporting on performance against sustainability targets, for both internal and external use;
  • Working with RYA departments to manage the environmental impact of events, products and services; and
  • Working with the Environmental and Sustainability team to embed a culture of sustainability throughout the RYA.
