The Role

The Senior Environmental Consultant is responsible for leading offshore consenting projects, providing technical/consenting advice for offshore projects and ensuring projects are properly coordinated and internal procedures are followed. The role will report to the Principal Environmental Consultant – Offshore Planning, and work closely with the Planning & Environment planning and ecologv sub-teams, along with other parts of the Natural Power team.

Duties and responsibilities associated with the role include:

Project management of offshore consenting projects;

Provision of updates on reports and projects as required, including financial information.

Proactive approach to helping manage departmental workflows.

Provide clients, colleagues, and consultees with specialist technical/consenting and strategic advice.

Preparation and review and/or approve technical/consenting reports.

Support new business development activities and provide input and review to tender and quote submissions.

Ensure compliance of contract and tendering processes

Build a network of client relationships

The post-holder will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected.  All members of staff are expected to be professional, co-operative and flexible within the needs of the post, the department and the Company.

Duties of the post could vary from time to time as a result of new legislation, changes in technology or policy.  In this event, appropriate training will be provided.

Qualifications:

Essential:

Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline

Knowledge of the renewable energy and infrastructure industry

Previous project management and consultancy based experience in a similar field

Demonstrable exposure relating to consenting of offshore renewables and grid projects, including EIA coordination and ability to problem solve

Detailed knowledge and experience of the DCO (Development Consent Order) process

Detailed working knowledge of relevant UK legislation related to Environmental Impact Assessment

Experience of negotiating with regulators and statutory consultees

Exceptional communication skills to enable clear and concise information to be effectively communicated to colleagues, clients and 3rd parties in both written and verbal format

Technical report writing skills

Highly organised, detail orientated with the ability to effectively influence and negotiate across all levels.

Desirable:

Educated to MSc or PhD in a relevant discipline

Previous contract negotiation experience

Technical knowledge of specific disciplines and surveys, e.g. offshore birds, marine mammals, archaeology, geophysical/geotechnical survey requirements, etc.

Working knowledge of the Habitats Directive and Regulations and provision of evidence plans

Working knowledge of relevant legislation related to Environmental Impact Assessment and Habitat Regulations Assessment for other countries such as Ireland and France

Previous line management experience
