Environmental Protection Officer
We’re looking for a passionate environmentalist to help us make improvements across our five
operational centres in South Derbyshire and to make a positive environmental impact across our
community of over 100,000 residents and businesses based in the heart of the national forest.
As our Environmental Protection Officer you’ll take lead responsibility for co-ordinating step changes
in our environmental performance and maintaining our ISO14001 accreditation covering all of the
Councils activities. You’ll offer advice to our planning officers to ensure that all future development
across the District is sustainable with a particular emphasis on protecting air quality, mitigating land
contamination and reducing exposure to environmental noise. You’ll also take the lead in how we
regulate environmental permits issued to businesses in the District.
You’ll be qualified to degree level in a relevant environmental science, with experience of
implementing ISO14001 and working with UK environmental law. You’ll have excellent influencing,
communication and organisation skills with a real drive to make a difference both to our
organisation and local community.
We offer a salary of up to £32,233 with a generous pension package; up to 32 days annual leave and
further training opportunities. Most importantly the position offers you the opportunity to shape the
future of our Council and the development of the fastest developing part of the UK outside London.
