The Royal Yachting Association, based in Hamble, near Southampton, is the national governing body for all forms of recreational, competitive and professional boating. It represents dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sportsboats, powerboat racing, windsurfing, inland cruising and personal watercraft.
Environmental And Sustainability Manager
The RYA is seeking to appoint an engaging and enthusiastic individual to lead its Environment and Sustainability team. The team; represents RYA interests to Government and international policy-makers and legislators at all levels; and monitors and responds to all planning and environmental policy and legislative proposals that might affect recreational boating interests on both tidal and inland waters. The team will also create and oversee the implementation of the RYA’s sustainability strategy. This will include working towards the achievement of the ISO 14001 Standard in order to identify, drive and monitor changes within the RYA, its events, and its affiliated organisations.
We are seeking a real people person, with an ability to lead on top down culture change, building strong working relationships with multiple stakeholders internally and externally. The role requires an effective representative, advocate and negotiator with the ability to communicate complex issues to a variety of audiences. The successful candidate will hold a relevant academic or professional qualification as well as have several years’ experience of working in a relevant field and experience of managing a small team. You will be able to demonstrate detailed knowledge of sustainability and environmental issues affecting coastal and inland boating, including the legislative framework and Government policy. Practical sailing and/or motorboating experience is desirable.
Salary £40,000 - £44,000 per annum, 35 hours per week
