At FCO Services, we protect information, assets and people on behalf of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and other government customers in the UK and around the world. This is an opportunity to work across both FCO Services and the FCO to reduce our environmental impact in areas such as greenhouse gases, transport, waste and recycling, and water consumption.
Make real improvements to environmental performance
This is a key position within our sustainability team, which involves managing and evaluating environment performance information and providing our Head of Sustainability with expert guidance and advice. You will be involved in delivering a range of environmental sustainability projects, such as our new Low Energy Embassy programme, which will have an impact not just in the UK but also around the world, and supporting the administration of the FCO’s ISO 14001 accredited Environmental Management System in the UK and Europe.
Hone your environmental management skills
We’re looking for someone with strong environmental management skills, particularly in the area of building efficiency. This should include direct experience of EMS and ISO 14001. It is likely that you have already gained experience as an environmental consultant or manager, possibly with a local authority or energy consultancy. Either way, you will have a good understanding of renewable energy technologies and knowledge of current and future legislation and environmental law. You must have a degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. IEMA membership, CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant qualifications and a knowledge of BREEAM would also be useful, although they are not strictly necessary for the role.
And make a real impact in the UK and overseas
FCO Services and the FCO employ people in the UK and around the world. So there is plenty of scope for you to reduce our environmental impact and make a real difference. There will also be opportunities for you to progress your career, develop your skills and potentially move on to even bigger and more challenging roles.
All our employees have to be security cleared to the highest level, so you will need to undergo a comprehensive vetting process before joining.
