Environmental Advisor 

Location: Aylesford, Kent 

Kier is working with Highways England to deliver Smart Motorways, converting the existing hard shoulder in to a running lane and installing sensors and signs to monitor and manage traffic flow so as to improve journey times in areas currently suffering from levels of congestion which make journey times unpredictable. 

We are looking for an experienced environmental advisor / environmental manager to join our team working on the M20 in Kent where we are preparing to deliver a Smart Motorway improvement between Juncion 3 (West Malling) and Junction 5 (Aylesford). 

Duties include: 

  • Preparing and maintaining a construction environmental management plan
  • Applying for and maintaining compliance with environmental consents and permits
  • Providing advice and support to management and project delivery teams on avoiding environmental pollution and compliance with environmental legislation
  • Undertaking regular inspections of environmental compliance on site
  • Undertaking or supporting environmental audits
  • Working with other Smart Motorway environmental managers to share best practice
  • Preparing reports for senior management and the client as required by management
  • Preparing and maintaining a site waste management plan (using BRE Smart Waste)
  • Monitoring and reporting carbon footprint (using Highways England Carbon Reporting Tool)
  • Identifying and providing leadership on environmental improvements
  • Preparing and delivering environmental briefings and tool box talks

Key Skills and Qualifications: 

You will have a relevant degree in environment or an environment related subject and will have experience of working on major civil engineering projects ideally in the highways sector. 

You will be comfortable in communicating environmental issues and priorities to senior management and to construction teams.
