Carrington West on behalf of their client is recruiting for an Ecologist.
The Ecologist can be based from client’s office in the North West or Midlands. The Ecologist must have a deep understanding of ecological impact assessment associated with infrastructure, preferably within the Highways Maintenance and Improvement Sector.
The Ecologist will
·Liaison with design teams, as well as the clients asset team (primarily Environment and Drainage) + liaison with statutory and non-statutory bodies
·Programming and coordination of site surveys, watching briefs and organising specialist ecological surveys as and when required for renewals and improvement schemes and studies. Ensuring tasks are correctly priced and seeing through delivery on time and to budget.
·Maintaining and constantly improving the ecological surveying and reporting procedure to increase effective information transfer throughout the schemes delivery process.
·Advise Highways England and Highways colleagues on ecological matters
·Leading site walkovers / surveys of the network.
·Report writing and review of junior ecologists site reports and associated documentation.
·Project management of ecological / landscape schemes.
·Undertake ecological assessment work as part of EIA (Highways Act) and AIES.
·Implement ecology- related strategic documents such as management plans.
·Liaise with designers, contractors and the client regarding ecological elements of schemes.
·Design and supervise the implementation of mitigation.
·Apply for licences and consents.
·Deliver training and toolbox talks.
·Advise sub-contractors and in-house teams working on ecologically sensitive works.
·Actively promote Health and Safety in the workplace, setting a good example to other employees and ensuring awareness of and compliance with all legal requirements via the processes set out in the Health and Safety Procedures Manual. Ensuring Team compliance on H&S for site visits
·For all studies and schemes – ensure compliance at all times with European and UK Environmental and wildlife laws.
·Support the Environmental Manager and Programme Delivery Manager on all commercial aspects including accurate Fee Estimate production, forecasting, early warning notification etc including meetings with HE PM’s where fee estimate and programme justification is required.
·Wider support role in the design process for Environmental Enhancement schemes as funded by the Environmental Designated Funds route.
·Recommendations for environmental innovation and improvements for engineering schemes including the promotion of sustainable design solutions.
The Ecologist will ideally
·An honours degree in ecological or relevant field
·Post graduate qualification (desirable)
·Holding some licenses such as GCN and/or bat licence essential.
The role of Ecologist is an initial 6 month contract rate dependant upon level of experience.
