The position exists to provide sustainability consultancy and project level management in the HDR sustainability division. Working across the division and services to perform a support and delivery function. Assisting the leadership team in ensuring the services meet the needs of our clients and are delivered successfully against internal requirements.

Effectively deliver and lead delivery of sustainability tasks with appropriate supervision whilst co-ordinating with internal divisions and project teams, other project disciplines and the client.

Support and advise internal and external project teams in targeting and achieving specific modelling related solutions. Proactively mentor and direct junior colleagues to ensure their professional development and task delivery is successful.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Specific responsibilities will include at all times and / or with an appropriate member of the division's leadership team or designated person:
  • Understand the technical quality audit system. Undertake technical quality audits on your own work and of others as required.
  • Professionally, proactively and successfully assist and support all aspects of your specialist division's activities and services.
  • Ensure successful assistance and support in the management and delivery of modelling services to our Clients' in a timely, integrated, and technically proficient manner.
  • Proactively participate in team development activities, transfer of knowledge, and mentor junior colleagues to support the achievement of objectives: individual; team; performance; and development.
  • Maintain and nurture good working relationships with colleagues and project team members.
  • Proactively seek input from within your division, or the project teams, to enable successful completion of your responsibilities.
  • Maintain professional accreditation(s), awareness and understanding (e.g. CPDs) of relevant industry standards, regulations, legislation and policies appropriate to the services of the division.
  • Understand the relationship and process of task delivery in relation to fee, resources and allocation of hours to ensure a timely delivery, meeting the objectives.
  • Accurately maintain a wide range of manual and computerised records /management information, media and quality systems, providing guidance to junior colleagues to meet the required business standards.
  • Handle a wide range of tasks, projects and queries, for all activities to meet service standards, and when assigned be the point of contact.
  • Assist in gathering, monitoring and reporting of data and financial information related to project tasks to support the successful production of final deliverables, and management reporting of service performance.
  • Effectively work independently or as part of a team to meet business requirements, as required both within the office, remote working environment and during site visits.
  • Maintain appropriate level of courtesy and professionalism in dealing with other people, both internally and externally, with the ability to ask questions and exchange information using tact and diplomacy to achieve a satisfactory outcome.
  • Assist in completion of administrative tasks relating to any part of the business as required, for example: timecards, marketing, HR and procurement.
  • Carry out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope and purpose of this job description and which are commensurate with the grade of the post.

Qualifications

Preferred Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • An Environmental / Sustainability / Energy / Building Services / Engineering related Bachelor's degree, or equivalent in a relevant subject. Desirable to have an equivalent Masters Degree.
  • Membership of an appropriate industry association e.g. CIBSE. Desirable to be Practitioner / Chartered (or equivalent) member of an appropriate industry association e.g. CIBSE
  • Form of accreditation in one or more of the following;
    • LCC,
    • LCEA level 5,
    • OCDEA.
  • Desirable to have a form of accreditation in any of the following;
    • DEC ABBE,
    • DEC APEL,
    • ESOS.
  • Appropriate amount of people management experience, with the ability to demonstrate successful development of others.
  • Successfully delivered four or more of the following:
    • Part L - Domestic,
    • Part L Non-Domestic,
    • EPCs - Domestic,
    • EPCs - Non-Domestic,
    • GLA Be Seen Operational Energy,
    • Thermal Comfort,
    • Overheating,
    • System Optimisation,
    • Façade Optimisation,
    • Climate Risk Overheating,
    • Daylighting,
    • BREEAM Credit Modelling.
  • Desirable to successfully have delivered in two or more of the following:
    • ASHRAE 90.1 Modelling,
    • ASHRAE 55 / ISO7730 modelling,
    • NABERS DfP Operational Energy,
    • CIBSE TM54 Operational Energy,
    • DECs,
    • ESOS,
    • Digital Twin.
  • Delivery in each of the following sectors:
    • Mixed use,
    • Office,
    • Residential and
    • Retail.
  • Delivery in at least one of the following:
    • Data Centres,
    • Education,
    • Healthcare,
    • Hotel,
    • Industrial.
  • Desirable to have experience in at least two of the following sectors:
    • Museum,
    • Theatre,
    • Stadia / Arena,
    • Sports Centres,
    • Pharma / biotech,
    • Transport (Airports, Rail, Bus),
    • Energy (oil/gas, solar, hydroelectric etc),
    • Media (TV/Radio/Film).
    • Government (courts, police, prisons etc).
  • Successful report delivery in each of the following:
    • GLA / London Plan Energy Strategies,
    • RS1 to RS4 modelling reports for Part L/BRUKL,
    • As-built Part L/ BRUKL reports,
    • Decarbonisation Reports.
  • Desirable to have successful report delivery in each of the following:
    • CBDM Reports
    • DfP Reports and independent verification of 3rd party reports
    • Digital Twin Reports
    • Renewable Energy assessment reports (PV, Wind, Solar Thermal, Geothermal).
  • Desirable to have delivery and / or accreditation in one or more of the following:
    • CASBEE,
    • DGNB,
    • Estidama Pearl,
    • Greenstar,
    • LEED,
    • NABERS.
  • Knowledge and experience of independent reports / data to successful review and complete a Modelling Study:
    • U-value Assessment,
    • Thermal Bridging,
    • Commissioning Reports,
    • Air Tightness Test Reports,
    • Glazing Datasheets,
    • Cooling/Heating equipment datasheets,
    • Luminaire Datasheets,
    • BMS / BEMS Controls.
  • Knowledge and ability to read Architectural, Civil/Structural, MEP and specialist drawings and specifications.
  • Working in a consultancy service within a busy office environment.
  • Experience of setting up and managing varied content across both internet and intranet platforms.
  • Health & Safety understanding.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and team working skills.
  • Personable self-starter with the ability to project a positive 'can do' and professional attitude at all times.
  • Ability to cope with frequent and varied tasks and prioritise workload according to the needs of the Service, maintaining good working relationships at all times.
  • Developing skills in project management. Skilled in supervision.
  • Competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
  • Competency in using AutoCAD and / or Revit.
  • Skilled in IESVE and STROMA FSAP software.
  • Desirable to be competent in using at least one of the following:
    • Rhino
    • Sketchup
  • Able to establish excellent rapport and good working relationships within the Sustainability team(s), company, project teams and with Clients.
  • Good organisational ability and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle a varied workload and keep to tight deadlines.
  • Awareness / understanding of equal opportunities and other people's behavioural, physical, social and welfare needs.
  • Understanding of corporate equality standards and diversity issues and impact in immediate work and service area.
