Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk
Ecologist
Salary: Starting salary up to £41,394 per annum (pay award pending), plus essential user car allowance and relocation package of up to £8k
Location: Based at King’s Court Council Offices, King’s Lynn
As part of the expansion of our Planning service, we have a new and exciting opportunity for an Ecologist to join our team. Your role will be to provide specialist advice to help protect and promote the natural assets of west Norfolk, which has a number of unique and protected habitats such as Roydon Common SAC, and of course the Wash, which is a Ramsar and SAC site. Enhancing the borough’s biodiversity supports the council’s corporate priorities, which include a number of initiatives to improve the local environment, and we need your help to deliver on national policies such as the provision of biodiversity net gain.
If you hold a degree (or equivalent) qualification in Ecology or a related subject and have a working knowledge of the relevant legislation to be able to assess the ecological significance of sites, and the habitats and species occurring on them, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. As part of the planning application process, you will advise on all aspects of ecology and the natural environment, and you will help implement the requirements of the Habitats Regulations as necessary. You will also ensure compliance with statutory and policy requirements, and that opportunities for ecological / biodiversity enhancement linked to developments are implemented.
You will have the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, together with the skills to prepare and present reports on technically complex issues, and be able to manage your time effectively to meet tight deadlines.
If you would like to join our team, we would like to hear from you. In return we can offer you performance related pay, a generous annual leave entitlement which includes an office closure between Christmas and New Year, membership of the local government pension scheme; and flexible/hybrid working opportunities. If your current salary is already close to the amount advertised we have some flexibility for an exceptional candidate who closes matches our requirements.
