Executive Leadership Opportunity in a new national oversight body

“OEP will be its people. To be the best it can be, to make the most difference, to deliver to the full, it needs the best people – talented, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and from all backgrounds…” Dame Glenys Stacey” Chair

The Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) is a new public body, established with the principal objective of protecting and improving the environment by holding public authorities to account against environmental laws and targets. We are a cornerstone of a new approach to environmental governance in England and Northern Ireland and have a unique role in relation to some of the most pressing issues of our time, such as air quality, water quality, and biodiversity loss. The pressures on our environment are significant and there is no time to waste.

Less than a year old, we have already started to demonstrate the value that we can bring. But we have much more to do. We are now seeking an outstanding Chief Insights Officer (CIO), to play a key role on our Executive Team. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to drive meaningful and lasting change. You will provide executive and strategic oversight and direction, and lead our team of scientific and technical specialists, ensuring evidence-based oversight of government delivery against Environmental Improvement Plans and targets.

The CIO will have proven experience of leading a high performing multi-disciplinary team in a fast moving environmental policy/advisory context, with a thorough understanding of the delivery of a scientific/analytical or advisory service. Qualified to at least postgraduate level or with extensive relevant equivalent experience in one or more of the following areas; natural sciences, environmental economics/statistics, operational research or data science. The OEP is a great place to work. We are a small organisation. Team work and pragmatism align with professional expertise and the establishment of an infrastructure and regulatory framework that will lead to a better environmental future.

The natural environment is important for everyone and we aim for our teams to reflect the diversity of our society. Your personal qualities will be as important as your professional experience and applications are welcomed from all backgrounds.

This is a unique opportunity to play a significant role in shaping and influencing how the OEP operates in its crucial early years of existence. For more information and to apply please click Apply.

Closing date: 5pm Friday 30 September 2022.
